SCFHS asks every nurse to complete accredited continuing education hours in each two-year registration period: 40 hours for registered and specialist nurses, 20 hours for nursing technicians. Only hours posted to your Mumaris Plus record count at renewal.
SCFHS CME requirements for nurses in one table
Most nurses know there is an hours target. Fewer know the rules around it, and that is where renewals get delayed. Here is the whole picture:
| Requirement | What it means for you | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Your hours target | Registered and specialist nurses 40; nursing technicians 20, per two-year period. | Your classification in Mumaris Plus |
| Accredited activities | Only accredited activities count. Accreditation is per activity and per provider. | The provider's activity details |
| Posted hours | Renewal reads hours posted to your record, not certificates. | Your CPD record in Mumaris Plus |
| Renewal window | You can apply three months before your period ends. | Your registration dates |
| Late renewal | A late fine applies from 31 days after your period ends. | Your registration dates |
Your two-year period, step by step
As shown in Mumaris Plus, SCFHS sends a reminder about 60 days before your registration expires, by email and WhatsApp. A busy ward makes it easy to miss, so set your own reminder much earlier.
Accredited means each activity, not the brand
A provider being well known does not make all of its activities accredited. SCFHS accreditation applies to each activity and its provider. Before you spend your time, make sure the specific course or event is accredited. Every Mulhim course is SCFHS accredited and carries 5 CME hours, and Mulhim is fully accredited.
Posted hours are what count
For activities inside the Kingdom, the provider posts your hours to Mumaris Plus. Mulhim does this within 24 to 48 business hours after you complete each course, and you download each certificate from your dashboard. Keep the certificates, but judge your progress by the record.
- Check your CPD record again a few business days after the activity.
- Contact the provider and ask them to post the hours.
- If it is still missing, raise a Tawasul ticket with SCFHS.
- Include the provider name, the activity approval number and the activity date.
What happens to hours above your target?
As shown in Mumaris Plus, hours earned beyond your target carry over as a balance you can use later.
How should a nurse spread the hours over two years?
Every Mulhim course carries 5 CME hours. A registered nurse with a target of 40 needs 8 courses; a nursing technician with a target of 20 needs 4. Spread over 24 months, 8 courses works out to one course roughly every 3 months. That is about one course per rota block, which most nurses can manage around night shifts.
Aim to finish a little before the renewal window opens, 3 months before your period ends. The last course you complete still needs 24 to 48 business hours to post to Mumaris Plus, and you want the record complete when you apply, not a week later.
| Your classification | Target | 5-hour courses | One course every |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registered or specialist nurse | 40 | 8 | About 3 months |
| Nursing technician | 20 | 4 | About 6 months |
One thing to plan around: each bundle gives 6 months of access. If you buy the 40-hour bundle, do the 8 courses inside those 6 months rather than stretching them over the whole period.
Where do nurses lose time at renewal?
We see the same few mistakes again and again.
- Counting certificates instead of posted hours. A certificate in your folder is not a record. Open your CPD record and add up what is posted there.
- Using the wrong target. A nursing technician who plans for 40 overspends; a registered nurse who plans for 20 comes up short at renewal.
- Leaving everything for the final month. If a provider is slow to post, you have no time to chase it before the late fine starts 31 days after the period ends.
- Assuming an activity is accredited because the provider is well known. Check the specific activity.
A worked example. A registered nurse opens Mumaris Plus 5 months before the end of her period and sees 25 posted hours. She needs 15 more, which is three 5-hour courses. Done over the next month, they post within 24 to 48 business hours each, and she applies as soon as the window opens. If you are unsure how to read the record itself, this guide on checking your CPD hours in Mumaris Plus walks through it, and you can browse every accredited option on the courses page.
Bundles for nurses
Registered and specialist nurses usually choose the 40-hour bundle; nursing technicians choose the 20-hour bundle. Each bundle gives 6 months of access.
